Michael is a Licensed Professional Counselor at Integrative Health Services, LLC with over 8 years of experience counseling individuals and families. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Music in 2007, and his Master of Science in Continuing Education in Counseling and Psychology in 2010, both from the University of West Alabama. While attending graduate school at UWA, Michael began his career in 2008 as a Residential Instructor at Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health, serving at-risk youth in an intensive residential treatment home. He continued to advance his education, earning a Master of Arts in Counseling with a concentration in School Counseling in 2017 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Michael is also now a Certified Specialist in Anger Management (CSAM) and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).
Michael believes in maintaining a well-rounded perspective in helping others and has professional experience serving individuals in a variety of settings, including psychiatric hospitalization, alternative schools (grades 7–12), adult corrections, outpatient community mental health agencies, school-based counseling, and in-home services. His work with diverse populations has equipped him with a broad understanding of different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Michael is passionate about providing therapeutic services that foster genuine “buy-in,” meeting individuals’ specific needs, and helping them utilize their strengths to develop and enhance essential skills that promote resiliency, balance, and self-awareness while supporting a healthier lifestyle. He strives to add value to each individual—not only by making them feel heard and supported but by advocating for their best interests and collaborating to improve their overall quality of life.
Michael is a Certified Specialist in Anger Management (CSAM) and has provided counseling in areas such as trauma, self-esteem, anger management, social and behavioral challenges, child and adolescent mood disorders, family conflict, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and life transitions. His clinical approach incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing.
Outside of counseling, Michael enjoys spending quality time with his family, traveling, weightlifting, and cutting his grass. He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
